If half your crew logs “NI” and the other half logs “not interested” and a third writes “dead,” your manager cannot coach from the dashboard. Quotas look fine until you try to build a second-pass list. The fix is a single disposition list every rep taps at the door.
The reason reps improvise is usually that the default codes do not match the sale. A solar rep needs to separate “roof does not qualify” from “not interested” because one is permanent and the other is a follow-up next season. If the app only offers the second, that distinction dies in a notes field and never reaches a report.
In KnockRoute you edit that list yourself — no ticket to support. Here is the how-to for sales teams, plus a short section for advocacy projects that use the same Settings screen.
Open your project dashboard → Settings → General → Visit Statuses.
You can:
Reps see the new labels the next time they open the field map. Owners should refresh the dashboard once if the Settings card is missing after an update.
Sales projects start with Interested, Not Interested, Callback, Closed/Sale, and Not Home. Rename them to the language you already use in standup:
Keep Not Home separate from Not Interested. Contact rate and pitch conversion are different problems. Mixing them hides whether you need better timing or better scripts. See how to reduce no-answer rates for the ops side.
Analytics shows a Lead Outcome Distribution bar chart using your disposition list (order and colors from Settings). Pair it with the visit doughnut and you get both mix and volume. For the metrics managers should watch weekly, see D2D sales metrics and KPIs.
Sales dispositions do not use political voter ID scores (1–5). That chart is for campaigns that score support; your sales chart is outcome counts.
The right list depends on what disqualifies a door in your business. A few that work in practice:
| Industry | Codes worth adding beyond the defaults |
|---|---|
| Solar | Roof DNQ, Shade DNQ, Renter, Appointment Set |
| Roofing / storm | Inspection Booked, No Damage, Already Filed, Insurance Pending |
| Pest control | Sold Recurring, One-Time Only, Has Contract, Callback Spring |
| Fiber / telecom | Not Serviceable, Under Contract, Switch Scheduled |
| Home security | Has System, Renter, Demo Booked |
Notice the pattern: each list separates cannot buy from will not buy today. That single distinction is what makes a second-pass list worth running instead of re-knocking the same dead doors in six months.
One list drives more than the buttons on a phone:
That last one matters for pay. If Closed/Sale is the code commissions key off, renaming it is safe but adding a second “Sold” button is not — you will split the same result across two codes and someone will get shorted. Pick one closing code and keep it.
A custom list only helps if the crew uses it identically. At standup, read the list once and clarify the pairs that reps actually confuse:
If your org also runs voter contact (or you switched a project type), political presets use Strong Support through Strong Oppose plus Not Home / Refused / Moved. You can rename those to your own party or candidate language the same way.
Political statuses can carry an optional score 1–5 for the Voter ID Score Distribution chart. Once a status already has doors logged, that score is locked so Analytics does not rewrite history. Unused statuses can still get a score; used ones can still be renamed. One score per status — do not put two buttons on score 1.
New meaning always means a new status. Do not recycle Closed for “yard sign delivered.”
Open your project dashboard and go to Settings, then General, then Visit Statuses. From there you can rename labels, change colors, reorder buttons, add funnel-specific codes, and remove dispositions that have never been used on a door.
Yes. Contact rate and pitch conversion are different problems. If you merge them you cannot tell whether to change your knock times or your script, and you lose the ability to build a clean second-pass list.
Past doors keep the same internal status key and simply display under the new label in the app and in Analytics. If the meaning changed rather than the wording, add a new disposition instead of reusing an old one.
Disposition codes are training. Set them once in Settings so every knock lands in the same language your CRM and coaching conversations already use — then trust the dashboard.
